Tips & Advice:
Seed Preparation:
Begin by placing the seeds on moist kitchen roll within an airtight container, allowing them to rest in a warm room. Sow as soon as they start to swell or sprout. Alternatively, soak them overnight, but make sure to sow immediately afterward.
Sowing Indoors:
For indoor sowing, plant the seeds individually in rootrainers or 8cm pots, burying them 1cm deep. Water lightly after sowing, then refrain until seedlings emerge. Maintain a temperature of approximately 15°C until germination.
Growing On / Planting Out:
Once seedlings reach 7-10cm in height, pinch out their tips to stimulate bushier growth and more abundant flowering. Keep them in a cool yet well-lit area. If sown in autumn, shelter seedlings in a cold frame, greenhouse, or under a cloche. Plant them outdoors, spaced 20cm apart, from late March onward as the weather warms. Avoid disturbing the roots during transplanting.
Sowing Outdoors:
In pre-watered, compost-enriched soil, sow seeds 2cm deep and approximately 7cm apart once the soil begins to warm in spring. Maintain soil moisture until seedlings emerge, then thin them to a spacing of about 20cm as they develop.
Aftercare:
Provide support for the plants using canes, netting, or trellis, extending to about 1.8m in height. Regularly tie stems to the support structure as they grow. These sweet peas also thrive in large pots. Ensure consistent feeding and watering, and regularly harvest flowers to promote continuous blooming
